Description
While skilled bricklayers will always try to finish their work free from blemishes (particularly in internal face brickwork), some cleaning down will generally be required to get rid of mortar droppings or other stains that can accumulate during the building processes.
This Building Technology File (BTF) provides advice on routine cleaning of brickwork and also discusses methods that can be used to remove various special types of stain that might occur. Before beginning any cleaning process, it is essential to identify the type of stain so that the appropriate treatment can be carried out. The appearance of bricks can be permanently spoiled by using an unsuitable cleaning agent, or by careless application methods.
