Search

Simple search queries
By default, a simple search will look for items in which any of the words appear. For example, if you enter wheat fertiliser and hit search, items containing both "wheat" and "fertiliser" would be found.

Advanced options
Choose the option "all words" to search for items containing both words in your search. For example, if you choose this option and enter wheat fertiliser then hit ´go´, items containing both "wheat" and "fertiliser" would be found. This option works in the same way as the simple search.

Choose the option "any word" to search for items containing any one or more of the words in your search. For example, if you choose this option and enter wheat fertiliser then hit ´go´, items containing "wheat" or "fertiliser" or both would be found.

Choose the option "exact phrase" to search for items containing the phrase in your search. For example, if you choose this option and enter wheat fertiliser then hit ´go´, only items containing the phrase "wheat fertiliser" would be found.

Choose the option "advanced query" to use complex search strings that include ´and´, ´or´, ´not´. For example, if you choose this option and enter wheat and (cultivat* or crop*) then hit ´go´, the search will perform an advanced search query for wheat cultivation.

To restrict your search to format, (eg Book & CDs, Magazine Articles) select one or multiple format option(s). For example, if you choose "Magazine Articles", only items of this format would be found.

Wildcards
The asterisk (*) can be used as a wildcard for any string. For example, a search for fern* would find items authored by Fern or Ferness, as well as articles about ferns or fern-leafed plants.

The question mark (?) can be used as wildcard for any character. For example, a search for te?t would find items containing the words tent, teat or test.

Stemming
The search engine uses a ´stemming´ mechanism (by means of a stem operator) to search for words that derive from those entered in the query expression. That is, the search engine will search for the words entered as well as similar words. For example, entering find will return articles that contain find, finding, finds etc.
